ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jackson Georges was Born in Port-au-Price, Haiti, son of a prominent Haitian artist, Duclavier Georges. Jackson is an accomplished artist, interior designer and educator. He started painting and sculpting at the age of 7. Jackson attended Foyer des Arts Plastiques, a fine Haitian art school. In New York, Jackson attended City College where he majored in Architecture and Fine Art. Jackson has a master’s degree in Art Education from city College of the City University of New York. He is also a graduate of New York Institute of Art and Design in Interior Design. Jackson teaches visual arts and French in the New York City public school system.
Jackson Georges is a freelance interior designer, furniture designer, stage designer and muralist. Jackson will enter a doctoral program in art history at Columbia University in the fall of 2018. He uses all types of medium, such as wood, plexiglass, leather, metal, marble, stone, burlap, twine, acrylic and oil on canvas. His style is influenced by his father’s modern and surrealistic sculptures. His works have been on exhibit at leading art galleries in Haiti, at World Trade Art Gallery, The United Nations, City hall, City College, Laguardia Community College, Saks Fifth Avenue and Rockefeller Center, etc.
His subject matters are highly imaginative, and his forms are sculptural, elongated and highly inventive.
Jackson’s palette is rich in earth tone colors that can brighten any room and warms the heart of the viewer. He is the creator of “leather Sculpture on Canvas”. His folk-inspired style deals primarily with dance, maternity, and music themes that evokes harmony and heightens artistic sensibility.
As an art educator, Jackson uses the art to help students build both basic and advanced thinking skills. He believes that the knowledge and skills that students develop in learning to respond and create works of arts constitute a fundamental form of literacy. Jackson also believes that the art is inextricably linked to math, science, history and social sciences, etc. Above all, Jackson believes that a good art education can help students develop the four Cs: culture, communication, creativity, and cognition.
Jackson has received numerous awards including Art and Free World Artistic Award, Council Members City of New York Proclamation, BTW AWARDS (“Most Creative; in recognition of your much appreciated creative mind. We value your innovative ideas”).
